PFAS Test kit for eggs

  • How does the PFAS egg test work?

    1. Order your test kit
Order the PFAS egg test for the eggs you want to have analysed.

    2. Receive the test kit at home
You will receive packaging for 10 eggs, instructions and a return shipping label.

    3. Collect your eggs
Collect 10 eggs and carefully place them in the supplied packaging. Freshness is not important. The foam in the box protects the eggs during transport.

    4. Send your eggs to the laboratory
Close the packaging, attach the supplied return label and drop off the parcel at the designated parcel point. Your eggs will be analysed by Normec Groen Agro Control.

    5. Receive and understand your analysis report
You will receive the results by email. The usual analysis time is 10 working days after the laboratory receives your sample. The report shows which PFAS substances were analysed and the concentrations measured.

You can then upload your PDF report using the special link in our confirmation email. You will receive an easy-to-understand explanation of the results and what they mean for eating the tested eggs.

Test eggs for PFAS

Do you eat eggs from your own hens and want to know how much PFAS they contain? With this test, 10 eggs are professionally analysed by Normec Groen Agro Control. The eggs are combined into one homogeneous sample for analysis.

More than 4,500 egg samples tested

More than 4,500 egg samples have now been tested for PFAS through Testen op PFAS. Anonymised results help show where PFAS has been found. Visit PFAS Help for information and measured values.

Of 4,535 submitted egg samples, 51.7% had a combined concentration of PFOS, PFOA, PFNA and PFHxS above the European maximum level of 1.7 µg/kg. These samples were submitted voluntarily and are not representative of all eggs. A result near you therefore does not predict the result for your own eggs.

Why can results differ by location?

PFAS levels can vary locally, even between nearby properties. Possible sources include industrial activity, contaminated soil or water, and sites where PFAS-containing firefighting foam was used. Conditions also differ between plots, including soil, water, feed and the area where hens forage.

How many eggs should I send?

Send 10 eggs. The laboratory needs approximately 250 ml of egg contents. The eggs are broken and combined into one homogeneous sample. The test can also be used for duck, goose and quail eggs.

A broad analysis of 24 PFAS components

PFAS is a large group of chemical substances. This test analyses 24 different PFAS components, giving a broader picture than tests that measure only four compounds.

Clear interpretation of your result

After analysis you receive the measured values, an understandable explanation and a recommendation about eating the tested eggs. We indicate whether the eggs can be consumed or whether it is advisable not to eat them.

With this PFAS egg test you receive:

  • Analysis of 24 different PFAS components
  • Packaging for the safe shipment of 10 eggs
  • Clear return instructions and a return label
  • Analysis by a professional accredited laboratory
  • A digital laboratory report
  • An understandable interpretation and consumption recommendation
  • Results by email, usually within 10 working days after receipt by the laboratory

A combined result above 1.7 µg/kg, or a PFOS result above 1.0 µg/kg, exceeds the applicable European maximum level.
